Improv Island explores how the US trade embargo has had a rippling effect on Cuban society in almost every way, from auto-mechanics to education, health-care, transportation, entertainment, food supply, and overall happiness. Most importantly, it provides insight to the many ways in which Cuban’s improvise to make up for the lack of just about everything a modern first world society takes for granted.

The documentary calls into question the legitimacy of the 49 year old US trade embargo on a struggling Cuban society. This is the story of a perpetually creative and resilient people, and a call for change in US policy.

Improv Island was filmed during a three month NYU study abroad semester in Cuba in the Spring of 2008.
